Welcome to Baythorn Public School!
At Baythorn Public School, we are committed to creating a safe, caring, and inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported. Our dedicated team of professional and caring staff work hard to foster academic achievement, personal growth, and the well-being of all students.
Baythorn is proud to serve as both a welcoming home school for students who live in our immediate community and as the only elementary school in the York Region District School Board that houses the Integrated Arts program. This unique program provides students with opportunities to explore and express themselves through the arts, while engaging deeply in the Ontario curriculum.
Each of the four strands in the Arts curriculum- Dance, Drama, Music, and Visual Arts - is designed not only to develop technical skills and knowledge, but also to help students think, reflect, and connect more deeply to themselves and the world around them.
- The Creative Process: Students are guided through stages of imagination, planning, experimenting, producing, and revising their work. This process encourages risk-taking, problem-solving, and the ability to generate and refine ideas.
- The Critical Analysis Process: Students learn to observe, describe, analyze, interpret, and evaluate works of art-their own and those of others. This develops critical thinking skills and the ability to form and express informed opinions.
- Personal and Cultural Contexts: The arts are explored as a means of self-expression and as a reflection of diverse communities, traditions, and histories. Students connect their learning to their own identities and experiences while also appreciating the perspectives and contributions of others.
Together, these elements ensure that arts education is not only about creating art, but also about understanding, reflecting, and engaging with the broader human experience which reaching academic excellence.
As part of our School Improvement Plan, and as aligned with the Board DAP & MYSP, we are focused on supporting student achievement and well-being through a number of key areas: strengthening early reading skills, deepening understanding and confidence in mathematics, and fostering inquiry and innovation through STEAM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). Equally important, we are committed to promoting mental health and well-being, and embedding human rights and inclusivity in all that we do. These priorities guide our daily work and ensure that every student has the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.
We look forward to working in partnership with families to support each child’s educational journey, ensuring that all students feel inspired, empowered, and ready to thrive and succeed at school.
Sincerely,
Aneta Fishman, M.Ed
